Good afternoon, Michael. We understand you being concerned about your daughter's experience and we completely respect that, but please understand, in all of our years in business we have never ripped off or taken advantage of anyone. That is not our way of business and never has been. I think our nearly 700 5-star Google reviews can attest to that. Your daughter brought her car in because it was running rough and had a check engine light on. In our testing/diagnostics on this issue – we determined that the spark plugs were fouled and needed to be replaced. We also determined that the ignition coil on cylinder #5 was arcing/damaged and needed to be replaced. As part of this inspection – it appeared that 4 of the 6 ignition coils had recently been replaced somewhere else. We recommended replacing the damaged coil on cylinder #5 and also the coil on cylinder #1 – so that all of the coils would be relatively new. The detailed inspection that we sent to your daughter included pictures of the damaged coil and fouled spark plugs. As we do with all vehicles, we did a comprehensive vehicle inspection on this vehicle. This car had numerous other problems – way beyond just the mis-fire: The engine was vibrating badly because the motor mounts were broken. Both serpentine belts were dried out cracking and needed to be replaced Significant oil leak from multiple places – likely the valve cover and from behind the timing cover. Grease leaking from both front CV Axles Power steering fluid leaking from rack & pinion assembly Control arm bushings cracked and damaged on front lower control arms Shocks and struts – fluid leaking from original shocks and struts All of these issues – along with all of the good things on the car were documented in a very detailed inspection with pictures and sent to your daughter. When a customer comes in with a specific issue/complaint – we address that issue first. In the case of your daughter’s car – that would be to replace the spark plugs and ignition coils. But we also want to inspect the entire vehicle to make sure there are no other major issues on that car. Your daughter’s car has several major issues – motor mounts, oil leaks, power steering leaks, etc. Our goal is not to sell you more stuff. Our goal is to make sure you are completely aware of all the issues on your car. Especially on an older car – we don’t want you to spend money on an expensive repair – when there may be more serious, more expensive repairs that are also needed. We never told your daughter that she needed to do all of these repairs. We just made her aware of all these issues.
